Who is Rami Malek?

He is an American actor who is known for portraying computer hacker Elliot Alderson in the USA Network television series Mr Robot (2015–2019), for which he received the “Primetime Emmy Award”.

He has received many other prestigious awards and is the first actor of Egyptian heritage to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. American news magazine and news website  “Time magazine” named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2019.

Early Life

He was born on 12th May 1981 in Torrance, a city in the Los Angeles metropolitan area located in Los Angeles County, California, United States. His father Said Malek sold insurance, & his mother Nelly Abdel-Malek worked as an accountant. He has an identical twin brother named Sami & has an older sister, Yasmine.

He studied at Notre Dame High School, which is in Sherman Oaks, Los Angeles. After he became graduate in 1999, he went on to study theatre at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in 2003.

Career

He got his first role in the TV sitcom “Gilmore Girls” the episode he acted in first aired in January 2004. In 2006, he made his feature film debut as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah in the  Night at the Museum, a fantasy comedy film directed by Shawn Levy. In 2007, he appeared on-stage as Jamie in the Vitality Productions theatrical presentation of Keith Bunin’s The Credeaux Canvas at the Elephant Theatre in Los Angeles.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn” – Part 2 in 2010 which was an American romantic fantasy film directed by American director and screenwriter Bill Condon. He also had minor roles in Battleship, American military science fiction action film & the Oscar-nominated psychological drama movie “The Master”, and  American romantic crime drama film  “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”. 

The American drama thriller television series “Mr Robot “ premiered on 24th June 2015, on the USA Network, with him in the lead role. The show concluded in December 2019 with its fourth season, for which he received a third Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Television Series – Drama.

In 2018, he performed the character of Freddie Mercury in the Queen biopic, “Bohemian Rhapsody”. The movie premiered in London on 23rd October 2018 and became a major box office success, collected over $900 million (Rs 66,17.34 Cr) worldwide on a production budget of about $50 million (Rs 3,67.63 Cr). He received the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film.

He also voiced Chee-Chee the gorilla in the fantasy adventure film “Dolittle”, performing along with American actor Robert Downey Jr.; the film was produced in 2018 and released in January 2020. In May 2019, he started his next project with the cast of the crime thriller “The Little Things”, opposite  American actor, director, and producer Denzel Washington and  American actor and musician Jared Leto. The film was released on 29th January 2021.

On 25th April 2019, he was cast as the main villain in the James Bond film “No Time to Die” he plays the “supervillain” Lyutsifer Safin. It had an initial release date of April 2020, but, due to COVID-19 related delays, it would be released on 30th September 2021 in the United Kingdom and 8th October 2021 in the United States. French actress Léa  Seydoux as Dr Madeleine Swann & British actress Lashana  Lynch as Nomi. English actor Daniel Craig performed as James Bond in the movie.

An English film, television actor Ben Whishaw performed as Q, MI6’s Quartermaster who outfits “00” agents with equipment for the field. English actress Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny. American actor Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter, Bond’s friend and a CIA field officer. Austrian actor Christoph Waltz performed in the movie as Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

English Actor, Ralph Fiennes as M, the head of MI6 and Bond’s superior. Cuban-Spanish actress Ana de Armas portrays Paloma, a CIA agent assisting Bond along with the English actor Rory Kinnear who performed an important role in the movie as Bill Tanner.

Personal Life

In 2009, he moved into a house in the Laurel Canyon near Los Angeles with his brother. He purchased this home in 2021. He purchased it for $ 2.1 million (Rs 15.44 Cr).
