Who is Lana Del Rey?

She is an American singer and songwriter whose third studio album “Ultraviolence” which was released on 13th June 2014 topped the chart. The leading single of the album “West Coast” received amazing success. That same year she recorded the eponymous theme for the drama movie “Big Eyes” which received Golden Globe nominations. 

Throughout her singing career she has received many awards including two Brit Awards, two MTV Europe music awards, a Satellite Award, nine GAFFA Awards, six Grammy award nominations including a  Golden Globe nomination.

Early Life

She was born on 21st June 1985 in Manhattan, which is the most populated & regional city in New York in the United States. Her father Robert England Grant Jr who is a  group Copywriter in an American global Advertising Agency based in New York City “Grey Group” & mother Patricia Ann Pat an executive accountant in the same company. She has a younger sister named Caroline and a Younger brother Charlie.

She studied at St. Agnes School & also continued singing in Choral music. In 2004 at nineteen years of age she took her admission at “Fordham University” in New York in Philosophy & Metaphysics. She becomes graduate with a  bachelor of arts degree in Philosophy in 2008.

Career

In 2011 she uploaded self-made music video songs “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” on YouTube which becomes viral on the internet. The song also made her the receiver of the UK’s annual Music Award “Q Awards” in October 2011. In the same month, she signed under American Record label company “Interscope Records” under the Universal music group &  German British record label company “Polydor Records Ltd”. She released her second studio album “Born to Die” on 27th January 2012. It sold over 3.4 million copies in 2012 & it becomes the fifth best selling album of 2012. 

In May 2013 she released an original song “Young and Beautiful” for the soundtrack of the movie Adaptation  “The Great Gatsby”.The song reached number twenty-two on the Billboard Hot hundred. The song reached number six which also makes her first  American top ten hits. Remix of the song has won Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2013.

Her third studio album “Ultraviolence” was released on 13th June 2014 at reached number one in twelve countries. Album sold 880,000 copies worldwide in its first week. Her fourth studio album “Honeymoon” released on 18th September 2015 which also reached number two US Billboard 200  and sold over 116,000 units in the first week. In November 2015 she won Trailblazer Award at the “Billboard women in music “ceremony and also won the  “MTV Europe music award” for Best Alternative. In 2016 she collaborated with Canadian singer and songwriter The Weeknd for his third studio album “Starboy”.

In  September 2019 She also featured in a collaboration with American singer and actress Ariana Grande and American singer and songwriter Miley Cyrus for titled “Don’t Call Me Angel”.The song becomes International successful and also certified gold in Many countries. The same year in November she appeared in an Amazon Prime Special “The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show” with special guests such as  Cuban-born American singer and songwriter Camila Cabello, English actor James Corden & Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan. 

Her singing inspiration throughout her singing career is including  American singer and songwriter  Billie Eilish, Lauren  Jauregui, American rapper Singer-songwriter  Kevin Abstract & American singer-songwriter  “Maggie” Lindemann. Billboard has also stated that she has influenced her Next generation of alternative-leaning pop stars, such as American singer and actress Selena Gomez, American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and other current-generation singers.

Her upcoming eighth studio album  “Blue Banisters” is scheduled for release on 4th July 2021 under Interscope Records & Polydor Records Ltd. The album is included with three tracks “Blue Banisters”, “Text Book” & “Wildflower Wildfire”.She has also uploaded a small teaser with the caption Blue Banisters to her Instagram.
