She was born on the 4th of August 1956, in New York. Her parents Margaret Cushing and Hendricks Hallett Whitman, Jr. Whitman is also the great-great-granddaughter of U.S. Senator Charles B. Farwell of Illinois.

Career

She was an executive in The Walt Disney Company. In the 1990s, she was an executive for DreamWorks, Procter & Gamble, and Hasbro & was president and CEO of eBay from 1998 to 2008.

During her years with the company, she oversaw its expansion from 30 employees and $4 million ( INR 29.83 Cr) in annual revenue to more than 15,000 employees and $8 billion ( INR 5,96,69.28 Cr) in annual revenue. In 2014. She was named 20th in Forbes List of the 100 Most Powerful Women in the World.

In 2008, Whitman was selected by The New York Times as among the women most likely to become the first female president of the United States.

In 2010, Warren Buffett asked her to join the Giving Pledge in which billionaires would commit to donating half of their money to charity throughout their lifetime but she refused.
