Introduction

Coco Gauff is an American tennis player & is the Women’s Tennis Association’s (WTA) the youngest player in the top 100, with a career-high of world No. 23 in singles and No. 42 in doubles. 

Gauff won her maiden WTA singles victory at the Linz Open in 2019, after that she became the WTA Tour’s youngest singles champion since 2004. 

With Caty McNally, she won three WTA doubles titles. She became famous and gained popularity after defeating Venus Williams in the first round of the 2019 Wimbledon Championships.

Early Life

Gauff was born on 13th March  2004 to her parents Candi and Corey Gauff, & both belong to Delray Beach, Florida.

She grew up in Atlanta and became interested in tennis at the age of four after watching Serena Williams win the 2009 Australian Open on television

She won her very first professional match at that tournament when she was fourteen years old. 

She is expected to earn at least $1 million ( INR 7.54 Cr) primarily from endorsements, in 2019.

Career

In the 2019 French Open, she was eliminated with a fourth-round loss to champion Simona Halep. All four of her matches were most-watched matches on ESPN on their respective days during the first week of coverage. After this performance, she ranks in world No. 141.

She was defeated in the third round by world No. 1 and defending champion, Naomi Osaka. In doubles, she along with McNally also won two matches, including an upset over ninth seeds Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke.

They lost in the third round to eventual runners-up Ashleigh Barty and Victoria Azarenka.

She entered two more tournaments following the US Open.

She defeated defending champion Osaka in the third and became the youngest player to defeat a top-5 player since Jennifer Capriati beat Gabriela Sabatini at the 1991 US Open. In the fourth round, she lost to the champion, Sofia Kenin, in three sets.

She beat two top-50 players at the Lexington Challenger before losing in straight sets to world No. 49, Jennifer Brady

In the first round of the Italian Open before losing to two-time Grand Slam champion Garbiñe Muguruza she ranked 53.

In the final stages of the 2020 season, she took a wildcard into the qualifying draw at the Ostrava Open. She qualified for the main draw and was defeated by Aryna Sabalenka.

At the Australian Open, in singles, she again beat Teichmann in the first round, but fell in the Round of 64 to the fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina, in straight sets.

At Adelaide, all of her matches ran three sets, she beat Shelby Rogers before falling to second-seeded Belinda Bencic.

 At a WTA 1000 in her career at the Italian Open due to Barty retiring with a right arm injury in their quarterfinal match. As a result, she entered the top 30 for the first time. She then lost to Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek.

The primary purpose of the exhibition was to raise funds for a variety of charitable groups, including the Ocean Conservancy, First Serve USA, and Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Rescue. 

Along with this she also took part in the Baha Mar Cup in the Bahamas in November 2019 to aid Hurricane Dorian recovery efforts.
