Early Life
She was born on 21st March 1992 in Louny to her parents Radek and Martina Pliskova and has a twin sister, Kristyna.
Career
2014 was the most memorable career year for her after consecutive second-round finishes in Auckland and at the Australian Open, she reached her second career WTA tour final in Pattaya City, defeating top-50 players American professional Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Romanian Sorana Cîrstea before losing to Russian former Ekaterina Makarova in the final.
In May, she reached her third career final in Nuremberg, losing to second seed Canadian tennis player Eugenie Bouchard in three sets. After playing in America, she reached two finals in two consecutive weeks – in Hong Kong, where she lost to German tennis player Sabine Lisicki, and in Seoul, which she won, defeating American Varvara Lepchenko in the final to take her second career title. A third overall title (and second of the year) in Linz ensured she finished the year ranked world No. 24.
She started her year at the 2015 Brisbane International where she defeated former world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, in the first round before losing in the second. She reached her first WTA Premier-level final at the Apia International Sydney, defeating Spanish professional Carla Suárez Navarro and German Angelique Kerber before losing to fellow Czech, Petra Kvitová, in two tie-breaking sets. As a consequence of this run, she comes into the world’s top-20 for the first time in her career.
At the 2015 Dubai Championships, Spanish professional tennis player Garbine Muguruza reached her first Premier-5 semifinal in singles, defeating qualifier Slovak-Australian former tennis player Jarmila Gajdosova, 13th seed and doubles partner Suárez Navarro before falling to the 17th seed and eventual runner-up, against her.
She then pulled out of the Olympics. She won her maiden WTA Premier tournament at the Western & Southern Open, defeating Germany’s Angelique Kerber in straight sets in the final. Her victory denied Kerber the opportunity to take over the world No. 1 ranking from Serena Williams. At the US Open, she beat wildcard American Sofia Kenin, qualifier Paraguayan Montserrat González and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova en route to her first Grand Slam round of 16, where she defeated No. 6 seed and two-time champion, Venus Williams, in three sets and ensured her first-ever major quarterfinal where she faced Croatian tennis player Ana Konjuh.
The highest-ranked Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina in the 2016 season at the Hopman Cup, was undefeated in her singles matches in the round-robin stage, defeating American Victoria Duval & her.
At the 2017 Australian Open, she defeated easily Spanish Sara Sorribes Tormo and Russian tennis player Anna Blinkova and beat Latvian professional Jelena Ostapenko in three sets despite being down 2–5 in the third. In the fourth round, she defeated Australian Daria Gavrilova and reached her second straight Grand Slam quarterfinal, where she was defeated by unseeded Croatian professional tennis player Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in three sets.
She defeated American Jennifer Brady by dropping just one game and advanced to the quarterfinals. She lost to CoCo Vandeweghe in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the US Open. At the Pan Pacific Open, she defeated Polish professional Magda Linette before losing to Angelique Kerber. At the Wuhan Open, she reached the quarterfinal stage before losing to Ashleigh Barty in three sets.
At the 2018 Australian Open she reached the quarterfinals for the second time, having defeated Paraguayan tennis player Veronica Cepede Royg, Brazilian tennis player Beatriz Haddad Maia, Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova. In the quarterfinals, she lost to Simona Halep in straight sets. In Qatar Open, she reached the third round after receiving a first-round bye and defeating Alizé Cornet in the second round in straight sets. After reaching the quarterfinals in New York, she defeated the newly crowned US Open champion Japanese Naomi Osaka to take Pan Pacific Open, her eleventh career title.
Her final grass-court warmup tournament before 2019 Wimbledon was at the Eastbourne International, where she defeated Russian Margarita Gasparyan, Belgian Elise Mertens, Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, Dutch former Kiki Bertens and she reached the last 16 at Wimbledon but was upset by the unseeded Czech Karolína Muchová, with the match going to 13–11 in the final set.
Her first tournament following the suspension was the 2020 Western & Southern Open where, as the top seed, she lost to Russian Veronika Kudermetova in the second round. At the US Open, she defeated Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, before losing to French professional Caroline Garcia in the second round. At the 2021 French Open, she partnered with twin sister Kristýna and reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam in doubles for the first time in their careers when playing together.
