Early Life

Ibrahimović was born in Malmö, Sweden, on 3rd October 1981. His father, Šefik Ibrahimović, emigrated to Sweden from Bosnia in 1977 and his mother, Jurka Gravić, emigrated to Sweden from Croatia. His parents met in Sweden & he was raised Catholic. Ibrahimović has one sibling and four half-siblings. He started playing football at six years old with local clubs. By the time he was fifteen years old, he was close to quitting football and working at the docks in Malmö instead, but his coach convinced him to keep playing.

Career

Ibrahimović signed with Malmö in 1999 & transferred to Ajax in 2001. He would go on to play with Internazionale, Barcelona, A.C. Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain & also become part of the Swedish national team, rejecting the opportunity to play for Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. On 14th August 2013, he scored an international hat-trick at the Friends Arena, scoring Sweden’s first three goals in a 4–2 friendly win against Scandinavian rivals Norway. He scored twice in a 3–2 play-off defeat to Portugal – billed as a battle between Zlatan and Cristiano Ronaldo as the team failed to reach the 2014 World Cup.

In December 2014, Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter ranked him the second-greatest Swedish sportsperson ever, after tennis player Björn Borg. In October 2015, he became PSG’s all-time leading goalscorer. Next year, he joined Manchester United on a free transfer and won the FA Community Shield, Football League Cup, and UEFA Europa League in his first season.

He scored eleven goals during the qualifying phase, making him the second-highest overall top scorer after Poland’s Robert Lewandowski. Ibrahimović joined the American club L.A. Galaxy in 2018. In 2020, he rejoined Milan.

On 8th October  2019, a statue of Ibrahimović was unveiled in his hometown, outside Malmö’s Stadion. The sports documentary “Becoming Zlatan “was released in February 2016. The film includes his early years with Malmö FF and Ajax all the way to his career with Juventus in 2005. AC Milan striker says he feels “panic” at the thought of retiring from football after 23 seasons in the game. He is now 41 years old now,& is still an evergreen presence up front for the Rossoneri despite his advancing years, scoring 33 goals since rejoining the club in 2020.

As of August 2020, his contract with AC Milan is about to expire. In 2020, he compared himself to Benjamin Button after becoming the first person to score 50 goals for both Milan clubs. He said: “I’m like Benjamin Button. I’ve always been young, never old.”
