Early Life

He was born on 5th July 1946 in the Bihar State in a backward Dalit family.

He was born in the Khagaria District of Bihar.The district headquarters of the area which was the part of the Munger district earlier. Jamun Paswan was his father, and his mother’s name was Siya Devi.

He was a bachelor in Law, completed from the “ Koshi college” Khagaria and also has a degree of Master from “Patna University”.

Career

After the completion of his master degree, he was first selected as DSP in the Bihar police in the year 1969. In 1974 he became the general secretary of  Lok Dal Political Party which was based on agricultural policies. Later on, in 1977 he associated himself with another national party.  Bharatiya Janata Party He also won the parliamentary candidature on behalf of his party from the Hajipur.

Later on, in 1980 & 1984 he got re-elected for the Lok sabha from the Hajipur. In 1983 he made his own party named Dalit Sena. It is an Indian political party based in Bihar state focusing on the reformation of the backward people of the country. 

In the year of 1989, he was again elected for the Lok sabha, and after winning the election, he was promoted to the “Union Minister of Labour & Welfare” for central.

It is the department in the Indian central politics in which it works for the protection & security of the general workers and backward people of the country. In 1996 he also became the Railway Minister and continued in the same designation till the year 1998.

After that period of time, in 1999 he became the “Union Communication Minister”. The department of the central ministry in which they work on the exchange of information by using different types of medium such as wire, radio, and optical fibre.

He continued with the same ministry until the year 2001. Afterwards, he was also promoted to another department called “ Coal Ministry”.

In 2014 he also promoted the designation of “ Ministry of Consumer Affairs”, food and public distribution. 

Personal Life

He married Rajkumari Devi in 1960. He has two daughters. Usha Paswan & Asha Paswan. But the couple got separated in the year1981.

And for the second time, he married Reena Sharma”, an Air Hostess by profession. They got engaged in the year 1983. They have one child & a daughter. His only child was named “ Chirag Paswan”.

Death

He has left us and proceeded for heavenly and took his last breath. He underwent heart surgery and was hospitalized at a Fortis hospital in Delhi. But unfortunately, he left us on 08th September 2020 in the evening.
