Early life

Mickelson was born on 16th June 1970 in San Diego, California, to his parents Philip Mickelson, an airline pilot and former naval aviator and Mary Santos. He grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona. He has Portuguese, Swedish, and Sicilian ancestry. He has had decades of an amazing career now and is still going very strong.

From 1999 to 2003, he achieved 17 top-ten finishes, and six second- or third-place finishes. Still, he did not actually win any of the majors.

At The Open Championship, 2011 he recorded just second top-ten finish in 18 tournaments by tying for second with Dustin Johnson.

At the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Mickelson rallied from six shots back, winning the tournament by two strokes with a final-round score of 8-under 64 and a four-round total of 269. The next week at Riviera Country Club, he lost the Northern Trust Open in a three-way playoff. He holed a 27-foot birdie putt on the final regulation hole to force a playoff alongside Haas and Keegan Bradley.

After that he came close to winning again at the FedEx St. He started the final round four strokes behind the leaders. At the WGC-Mexico Championship, with a final-round score of 66 and a total score of −16. Mickelson birdie two of his last four holes and had a lengthy putt to win outright on the 72nd hole, but tied with Justin Thomas & defeated Thomas on the first extra hole of a sudden-death playoff with a par.
