Early Life
He was born on 13th November 1957, in Wichita Falls, Texas, of English descent. His mother’s name was Doris Lechristia Jacks Abbott, and his father, Calvin Rodger Abbott, was a stockbroker. When he was only six years old, they moved to Longview; the family lived in the East Texas city for some time. During their junior high school time, his family moved to Duncanville. His father died of a heart attack; his mother went to work in a real estate office. He graduated from Duncanville High School. He was on the track team in high school, & was in the National Honor Society, and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed.
In 1981, He completed his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the Young Republicans Club. In 1984, he completed his Juris Doctor degree from the Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee. He went into private practice, working for Butler and Binion, LLP between 1984 and 1992
Political Career
He started his career in law by serving in the 129th District Court as a state trial Judge & later on appointed to serve in the Supreme Court of Texas by former Governor of Texas, George W. Bush after which he was elected to serve in the highest civil court of the state. In 2001 he resigned from the Supreme Court and later returned to private practice. He also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Law, working for Bracewell & Giuliani LLC.
In 2002, after his resignation, he decided to venture into politics by campaigning for the position of Attorney General which he won. During his period as Attorney General, he carried out a series of reforms such as expanding the attorney general’s office law enforcement division from 30 people to 100 and above & established a new division which he called the Fugitive Unit to investigate and convict sex offenders on the grounds of parole and probations violation.

A Reformation he carried out as AN attorney general was the strong opposition against gun control legislation, criticizing legislation that was enacted by NEW York State which strengthen the state’s gun laws by expanding and assault weapons ban and creating a high-capacity magazine; also stating that if a new gun-control bill was enacted by the Congress, he was going to sue them.
In 2006, he campaigned for a second term and won by 60% & went for a third term in 2010 and also won, thereby becoming the longest-serving attorney general in the history of Texas. After stepping down as attorney general, he declared his intention to run for the governorship election, in which he successfully defeated his opponent and was sworn into office in 2015, thereby becoming the 48th Governor of Texas. He started his ruling by passing into law anti-abortion and anti-immigration measures.

He is married to his wife and First Lady, Cecilia Phalen Abbott who was formerly a school teacher. They married in 1981 in San Antonio.
