Who is Gina Rinehart?

She is an Australian Industrialist and Mining magnet. She is the executive chairman of Australian mining and agricultural Business Company  Hancock prospecting. She is the daughter of Iron ore industrialist  “Lang” Hancock. When her father died in 1992 she took over the company Hancock prospecting. At that time the company’s net worth was around $ 75 million (Rs 5,56.08 Cr). She made this company a widespread & global company over in few years after she took over it from her father in 1992. In 2010 she started expanding her shareholdings outside of the mining area. She expands her share into agriculture & cattle station, a large farm & its main activity is to look after the cattle in large scale.

She becomes an Australian billionaire in 2006. Her fortune reached $ 29 billion (Rs 21,50,17.89 Cr) in 2012. She overtook Christy Walton as the world’s richest women and also included in the American Business Magazine Forbes in the annual list of the 100 most powerful women in the world. Forbes published her net worth of $ 14.8 billion (Rs 10,97,33.26 Cr) in 2019 & listed her as Australia’s 50 richest people. As of September 2020, Forbes listed her name as one of the world’s ten richest women. She was Australia’s richest person till 2015. As per the Forbes real data published on 5th March 2021, she is the 9th wealthiest woman in the world. 

Early Life

She was born on 9th February 1954 in Perth, which is the capital and largest city of Western Australia state. Her mother’s name Hope Margaret Nicholas & father Lang Hancock and was an Iron ore industrialist. She studied at St Hilda’s Anglican School for Girls located in Mosman Park, Perth. After schooling, she studied Economics at The University of Sydney located in Sydney, Australia. later on, she dropped out of the university for working for her father business.

Career

After the death of her father in March 1992 She becomes the Executive Chairman of Hancock Prospecting Pty Limited. In 2010 she took 10% Shareholding in Australia’s major Media company Ten Network Holdings Ltd. In 2015 her name listed as the 37th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes. The same year she also acquired the Fossil Downs Station the 4,000-square-kilometre property with the estimated cost of $ 30 million (Rs 2,22.43 Cr). She also acquired the Liveringa Station’s 50% share and Nerrima Stations in 2014 for $ 40 million (Rs 2,96.57 Cr).

In 2021 Australian based daily newspaper The Australian Financial Review posted her net worth as $31.06 billion (Rs 23,02,91.57 Cr). The Financial Review Rich List 2021 of Australia listed her name as the wealthiest Australian. 

In 2011 American multinational investment bank Citigroup estimated that she is just behind Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim whose net worth was $ 74 billion (Rs 54,86,66.34 Cr) & American business magnate Bill Gates whose net worth was $ 56 billion (Rs 41,52,06.96 Cr). As of December 2012  according to the Bloomberg billionaires index, she was the 37th richest person in the world with a Net worth of 18.6 billion (Rs 13,79,08.02 Cr).

In May 2021 Australian website Guardian Australia has reported that she was the single largest landholder of  Australia over 9.2Million hectares. Which is just over 1% of Australia’s total landmass. 

Personal life

At the age of nineteen in 1973, she met with  Englishman Greg Milton. She married him in 1973. They have two children  John Langley and Bianca Hope. The couple got divorced in 1981. In 1983 she married lawyer, Frank Rinehart. They have two children Hope who was Born in 1986 & Ginia in 1987. Frank Rinehart died in 1990.
