He was born on 28th June 1971 in  Pretoria, South Africa. His father’s name was Errol Musk & mother Maye Musk who is a Canadian by birth. He has a brother named Kimbal Musk & also has a sister named Tosca Musk. He completed his study from the University of Pretoria to seventeen years of age before moving to Canada. Thereafter he attended Queen’s University.

After two years he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania. After successfully qualifying there he received a dual bachelor degree in economics & physics. Thereafter he moved to California to join Stanford University to attend the PhD degree for applied physics and material science. But due to pursuing the business career, he dropped out from the PhD degree.

Career

He co-founded Zip2, a company that provided & licensed the online city guide software in the year 1999. After that, he founded X.com, online banking services which later merged with Confinity, an American software company based in the year 2000.

In May 2002 he founded SpaceX, it is an aerospace manufacturer & space transport service company. Then he joined Tesla, an electrical motor vehicle manufacturer company in 2004. Also became the product architect that year & after four years in 2008, he became the CEO of Tesla. American businessman a computer scientist Sergey Brin was also an investor in his electric car company Tesla.

SpaceX started the development of the Starlink Constellation of the low earth orbit satellite internet access in the year 2015. First, two prototype satellites launched in February 2018. The second set of test satellites & the first large deployment of a piece of the constellation happened in May 2019. The total cost of the project is $ 10 Billion (Rs 7,31,56.95 Cr).

In 2006 he created SolarCity, a solar energy services company that is a subsidiary of Tesla. Almost ten years later in 2015, he co-founded OpenAI, a non-profit research company that promotes friendly artificial Intelligence. The next year 2016 he co-founded Neuralink. It is a neurotechnology company focused on developing brain-computer interfaces. In June 2016 American financial and business news website “Business Insider” enlisted him & Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg as one of the “Top 10 Business Visionaries Creating Value for the World”.

Later in the same year, he also founded The Boring Company. It is an infrastructure and tunnel construction company that focuses on tunnels optimized for electrical vehicles. In 2017 SpaceX revealed the design of the next-generation launch vehicle  & spacecraft system that is called Big Falcon Rocket (BFR).

In May 2020 SpaceX launched its first crew dragon spacecraft flight named Demo-2. The long term goal of SpaceX is to reduce the cost of Human Spacecraft. In an interview, he stated that he hopes to send humans to Mars surface within 10-20 years. He also stated in an interview that he wants to establish a Mars Balcony with a population of 80,000 humans. Social Responsibilities

 In January 2015 he donated $ 10 Million (Rs 73.15 Cr) to the Future of Life Institute. To run a global research program focused on Artificial Intelligence. It also would be beneficial to humanity.

In October 2018 he donated $ 480,000 (Rs 3.51 Cr) to the Flint Water Crisis, an ongoing public health crisis that started in the year 2014 in the city of Flint, Michigan. Approximately 30,000 students in that area have free, safe drinking water from the water filtration systems now.

In October 2019 he donated $ 1 Million (Rs 7.31 Cr) to the TeamTrees, which is a collaborative fund riser that raised $ 20 Million (Rs 1,46.32 Cr) before 2020 to plant 20 million trees.

Personal Life

He married to Canadian author Justine Wilson in the year 2000. The couple had a child but unfortunately died at the age of only ten weeks in the Sudden Infant death Syndrome. Later on, they had also five sons through in Vitro Fertilization- twins in the year 2004 & triplet in the year 2006. But the couple got separated in the year 2008.

For the second time, he married to English actress Talulah Riley in the year 2010. After six years in 2016, they also got separated.

He is currently in a relationship with the Canadian Musician Grimes  & they gave birth to a boy child on 4th May 2020.
