Who is Clairo?

She is an American singer and songwriter who becomes a well-known singer since her single “Pretty Girl” released in 2017 becomes a viral success. Her debut studio album “Immunity” was released on 2nd August 2019 by New York-based independent record label company “FADER Label” received positive reviews from critics.

Early Life

She was born on 18th August 1998 in Atlanta, which is the capital and most populated city Of Georgia in the United States. Her mother’s name is Allie Cottrill and her father Geoff Cottrill is a newspaper former marketer who achieved the top position in Procter & Gamble, Coca-Cola, Starbucks & Converse.

She studied at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School and started recording cover at the age of thirteen and uploaded on the California based Internet music company “Bandcamp “. In 2017 she started attending New york-based private research University “Syracuse University”.

Career

She became famous in 2017 when her music video “Pretty Girl”  becomes viral on YouTube. The Video also becomes famous on Microgenre Electronic music “Vaporwave” centric Facebook group. by 2018 the video received more than fifteen million views on YouTube. Later on, she uploaded another video on YouTube  “Flamin Hot Cheetos”, which also crossed three million views by July 2018.

The success of  “Pretty Girl” creat interest in many record label company including American record label company owned by universal music “Capitol Records”, & American record label company owned by Sony music entertainment “Columbia Records”.The co-founder of New York-based magazine “The Fader” signed her for magazine associated record label with a twelve-song record Contract & also introduced her to Pat Corcoran the manager of American rapper-singer “Chance the Rapper”.

On 25th May 2018 Fader Record label company released her debut record “Diary 001”. That same month she announced a tour throughout North America which was opening for English singer and songwriter Dua Lipa. The same year in July she performed in a New York City live music venue located at 6 Delancey Street “Bowery Ballroom”, the show was a sold-out performance. 

Her first single from her debut studio album Immunity titled “Bags” was released on 24th May 2019. She released more than two singles from the same album “Closer to You” & “Sofia”. The album becomes successful and Apple Music named her an Up Next Artist in August 2019.

She made her Television debut in the “I Wouldn’t Ask You” American late-night talk show created and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel in September 2019. A few days later she performed  “Bags” on the American daytime television Comedy talk show “ The Ellen DeGeneres Show”. The same year in December she won the “Pop artist of the Year” at the “Boston Music Award” as well as “Album of the Year” for Immunity. The album was included in over ten critics’ end of year lists including the British daily newspaper “The Guardian”, American online music Publication “Pitchfork”, American magazine and website “Billboard” & Los Angeles based daily newspaper “The Los Angeles Times”.

In October 2020 she formed a new band called Shelly with indie-pop artist Claud with their two friends from Syracuse University, Josh Mehling and Noa Getzug. After the formation of th group, they released two songs, “Steeeam” and “Natural”, on 30th  October 2020. On 11th June 2021, she released  “Blouse”, the first single from her sophomore record & “Sling” which is set to be released on 16th July 2021 under FADER Label, a New York-based record label company owned by universal music “Republic Records” & American record label owned by Universal music group Interscope records.
