Who is Ed Sheeran?

He is an English singer-songwriter and record producer who started getting attention in the public eye in 2011 on YouTube. His third album ÷ (pronounced “Divide”) was the best selling album worldwide of 2017. He has sold 150 million records worldwide which also make him the world’s Best selling musical artist. In the United States, he has 84.5 million RIAA certified Units. In December 2019 British interprofessional organization Official Charts Company listed his name as the artist of the decade. Swedish audio streaming and media service provider Spotify told him The second most-streamed artist of the decade.

Early life

He was born on 17th February 1991 in Halifax, a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire in England. His father John Sheeran was a curator & mother Imogen Sheeran worked at  Manchester City art gallery. He has an older brother named Matthew who is also a music composer. He studied at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk.

Career

His debut New album + (pronounced “plus”) was released on 9th September 2011 by American record label company Asylum Records & Atlantic Records. Albums leading single “The A-Team” sold over 58000 copies in its first week and it also becomes the overall eighth-best selling single of 2011, selling 801,000 copies. It has been certified six-times Platinum by the British Phonographic Industry.

The English Iris Boy band One Direction song “Moments” which was released in November 2011 was co-written by him. At the 2012 Brit award, he won Best British male solo artist and British breakthrough act of the Year.

“Everything Has Changed” song was written and recorded by him along with American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. This song has taken in Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album Red in 2012. 

His second studio album × (pronounced “multiply”) was released on 20th June  2014. The future track of the album has been produced by American record producer Rick Rubin, American singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams, and American record producer Benny Blanco. Album reached number one in both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200.

The song  “Don’t” & “Thinking Out Loud” he releases these two songs on 24th September 2014. Song remained on number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks. The number one spot was taken by the song “Uptown Funk” by British American record producer Mark Ronson featuring American singer and songwriter Bruno Mars.  

“Love Yourself” song recorded by Canadian singer Justin Bieber from his fourth Studio album purpose in 2015 which was also written by him. In January 2017 he released two songs “Shape of You” & “Castle on the Hill” both the single break the record of the first-day release on Spotify with over 13 million streams in 24 hours. On 4th December 2017, Spotify listed its name as the most-streamed artist of 2017 with 6.3 billion streams. In the same year, he made a remix “Perfect Duet” featuring American singer & songwriter Beyonce.

On 10th May 2019, he released the single “I Don’t Care” which was a duet with Justin Bieber from his fourth Studio album. It debuted with 10.977 million daily global streams. The song reached number one in the UK Australia and number two in the US. The same year on 12th July he released the song “Antisocial” along with American rapper singer-songwriter Travis Scott. It also reached number one in the UK, the US, Australia, and other countries.

As per Wikipedia, he is going to release his lead single from his upcoming fifth studio album named “Bad Habits” on 25th June 2021 under the American record label company Asylum Records.

He always gives credit to American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift as his singing inspiration. His singing performances and working style influencers many singers of the current generation including Canadian Singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes, English Singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson, Cuban-born American singer-songwriter Camila Cabello and Australian singer-songwriter Cody Simpson.

Personal Life

He married Cherry Seaborn, his childhood friend and former secondary school classmate in January 2019. Their first daughter child was born in August 2020 named Lyra Antarctica.

In 2015 American Business Magazine Forbes published his earnings for $ 57 million (Rs 4,23.08 Cr) for the last year and ranked him as the 27highest-earning celebrity in the world. In July 2018 he becomes at the 9th position on their highest-paid celebrities.
