She is a German billionaire and is the daughter of German Industrialist Herbert Werner Quandt. As per the Bloomberg billionaires index, she is the richest woman in Germany & 65th richest women in the world. According to American Business Magazine Forbes real-time data which was published on 5th March 2021 she is the 8th wealthiest woman in the World.
Early life
She was born on 28th April 1962 in Bad Homburg, the district city of Hochtaunuskreis in the state of Hesse, Germany. Her father Herbert Werner Quand was a German Industrialist and her mother Johanna Maria Quandt was a businesswoman and German Industrialist.
She completed her school education at the Kaiserin-Friedrich Gymnasium which is in Bad Homburg. After that, she completed her Master of Business Administration, specialised in advertising from the IMD Business School which is a Business school in Lausanne, Switzerland. After completed her MBA she took admission to The University of Buckingham, a non-profit private university in Buckingham. She receives a degree in marketing and management from here & started her career in an advertising agency at the Young & Rubicam in Frankfurt.
Career
Her father Herbert Werner Quandt was a German Industrialist. When his father Günther Quandt died in 1954 his family business group was a joint venture of over 200 company including the battery manufacturer, several metal fabrication companies, textile companies and chemical companies Altana AG. It also owned 10% of German Multinational automotive Corporation Daimler AG & about 30% of BMW. later on, he increased the shareholding up to 50% in BMW.
When her father died in 1982 she becomes the legal shareholder of the company of 50.1%. in pharmaceutical and chemicals manufacturer Altana AG. After that, she became a member of that company’s advisory board and started to transform it into a world-class Company in German DAX. DAX is the German Stock index. Her company becomes the top 30 company of DAX. In 2006 Altana AG sold its pharmaceutical Division to Swiss pharmaceutical company Nycomed for €4.5 billion (Rs 3,95,85.18 Cr).
The full amount of €4.5 billion she distributed among the shareholder of her company. She remains the major shareholder of the company. Both the Company ALTANA and SKion, which are completely owned by her, have been a shareholder of Landa Digital Printing with 46 per cent since 2018. Landa Digital Printing is a company of the Israeli entrepreneur Benny Landa.
At the time of her father’s death, he left out a 12.50% stake in BMW for her. But after the death of her mother in 2015 the share becomes 19.2%. She becomes a member of the advisory group of BMW.
Apart from BMW, she is also the shareholder of other company including 8% shares of SGL Carbon SE, One of the world’s largest manufacture of Karbonn Products. She is also the owner of 25% of the shares of Nordex, the European company that manufacture and retail wind turbines. She has also shared in the Dutch biotech company “Paques” & German oil recycling company Avista Oil.
Personal life
She met with Jan Klatten during her internship in BMW where she worked as an engineer. They Married in 1990 in Kitzbühel, it’s a city located in the Kitzbuhel Alps along the river Kitzbuheler Ache in Tyrol, in western Austria, Germany. The Couple lives in Munich, the capital and most populous city in Bavaria, Germany. They have three children. They got separated in 2018. She is one of the biggest Donor of Centre-right politics in the Christian Democratic Union of Germany.
