He is an American business investor and is a co-founder, Executive Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of the American multinational Computer technology company Oracle Corporation. Daily ranking Index of the World’s wealthiest people Bloomberg billionaires Index has listed Larry Ellison name as the ninth-wealthiest person in the United States and as the tenth-wealthiest in the world with a Net worth of $ 93.9 billion (Rs 68,62,39.98 Cr) in 2018. According to Forbes billionaires Index which was published on 24th May 2021 he is the seventh wealthiest person in the world. 

Early life

He was born in New York City on 17th August 1944. He studied at South Shore International College Preparatory High School in Chicago. Later on, he shifted himself to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. After the death of his mother, he again attended the University of Chicago for study in Physics and Mathematics. At Chicago he first made the computer design in 1966.

Career

In 1970 he started working for the American electronics company Ampex. His projects included a database for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He has given the name Oracle to it. In 1977 he founded Software Development Laboratories along with his partner with the investment of $ 2000 (Rs 1.46 Lacs in today’s amount).In 1983 it officially becomes Oracle Systems Corporation.

In 1994, Informix overtook Sybase and became Oracle’s most important rival. He was made a director of Apple computer. He resigned in 2002.In 2005 his company paid him $ 975,000 (Rs 7.12 Cr)  salary, $ 6,500,000 (Rs 47.47 Cr)  Bonus & others of $ 955,100 (Rs 6.97 Cr). He also earn total compensation of  $ 61,180,524 (Rs 4,46.61 Cr). 

In 2008 he  earns a total  compensation of  $84,598,700 (Rs 6,17.55 Cr). In the year ending May 2009, he made $56.8 million (Rs 4,14.68 Cr).In 2006 American Business Magazine Forbes ranked him as the richest Californian. In April 2009 Oracle announces buying American technology company  Sun Microsystems. On 2nd July 2009, the Board of Company rewarded him with 7 million stocks. On 22nd August 2009, it was reported that he would pay only $1 as his base salary.

In March 2010 Forbes List of billionaires ranked him as the sixth-richest person in the world and as the third-richest American with a net worth of $ 28 Billion (Rs 20,44,56.28 Cr).In September 2011 his name listed on the Forbes list of billionaires as the third richest American citizen behind American business magnate and software developer Bill Gates and American investor Warren Buffett with a Net worth of $ 44 billion (Rs 32,12,75.24 Cr). Next year in October 2012 According to the Bloomberg billionaires index he was the eighth richest person in the world.

In June 2012  he purchased 98 % of the Hawaiian island for $ 600 million (Rs 43,82.72 Cr). American business-focused English language International daily newspaper The Wall Street Journal reported that he earned $ 94.6 million in 2013.

In 2016 his company purchased NetSuite for $9.3 billion (Rs 6,79,19.38 Cr) he also owned 35% Of that company and personally made $ 3.5 billion (Rs 2,55,62.37 Cr).

In December 2018 he becomes the Board of director in American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla. Next year in December 2019 he owns 36.2% shares of  Oracle & 1.7% shares of Tesla.

As of June 2020, he became the seventh wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of $66.8 billion (Rs 48,79,24.56 Cr).

Social responsibility and Philanthropy

In August 2010 it is reported that he has signed along with other 40 Billionaires The Giving Pledge. It is a  campaign to motivate all the billionaire to contribute at least their 50% fortune to making the World a better place for human beings.

In May 2016 he donated to the University of Southern California $ 200 million (Rs 14,60.14 Cr) for the established Cancer Research Centre.

Personal life

He married Adda Quinn in 1967 to whom he divorced in 1974. 

In 1977 he married Nancy Wheeler Jenkins in 1978 they got separated.

He then married the former receptionist at Relational Software Inc Barbara Boothein 1983. The couple has two children son David Ellison who later on becomes an American film producer and daughter Megan Ellison she also becomes an entrepreneur and American film producer. They got separated in 1986.

He married for the fourth time to romance Novelist Melanie Craft in 2003. They separated in 2010.

He has purchased $ 110 million (Rs 8,03.10 Cr)  of a 2.3-acre lake & Luxury apartment in the Woodside California area.

In 2010 he purchased a Beechwood Astor’s Mansion for $ 10.5 million (Rs 76.65 Cr) in New Port Rhode Island.
