Early Life

He was born on 8th July 1992 in Ashland City, Tennessee, USA. He is an American professional Boxer & is ranked 2nd inactive super middleweight. 

He married Jordan Plant, a Fox Sports reporter.

The couple met in 2016 for the first time and later in 2019, they got married. 

He started boxing at the age of eight as an amateur. He won numerous tournament titles while compiling a record of 97 wins. On 10th May 2014, he won a fight by first-round knockout by knocking his opponent in 47 seconds. 

On 6th November 2021, he’s scheduled to fight with the reigning WBA (Super), WBC, WBO and The Ring super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez. The winner will be the undisputed super middleweight champion in boxing history.

In the year 2014, he made his professional debut by fighting against  Travis Davidson in his first fight and knocked him out in the first round. He took 47 seconds to win the battle. He also defeated José Uzcátegui to win the IBF Super Middleweight title in 2019. 

He then faced Caleb Truax in his most recent knockout and successfully defended his IBF Super Middleweight title for the third time.

Plant vs. Truax

 He was scheduled to make his third title defence against the former IBF super middleweight titleholder Caleb Truax, on January 30, 2021.

 It was the second consecutive time that Plant headlined a PBC on Fox event. Truax was seen as a step-up in competition, competing with Plant’s last two opponents. 

Regarding the Canelo fight, Plant said in a pre-fight interview: “my manager Luis DeCubas just felt like with that being five weeks away, which is about four weeks of training, he just felt like a fight of that magnitude that he didn’t want to pull the trigger on”.

He dominated the fight by outboxing Truax from a distance, while Truax tried unsuccessfully to get closer and force the action at close range. 

Truax suffered a bruise and a cut by the end of the fourth round. In the fifth, Plant used his jab punch to stay out of trouble. Round eight saw Truax connect with a troublesome right to Plant’s jaw. 

He won all twelve rounds on each of the judges’ scorecards. In his post-fight interview, Plant stated his desire to become the first undisputed super middleweight champion.

He Lost His Daughter When She Was Just 19 Months Old.

Believe it or not but he had a painful history. He shared a daughter with his former girlfriend, Carman Briscoe with their daughter Alia. 

While Carman had to look after their daughter and hence, had to leave her job, it was Caleb who had to power through the medical expenses. Sadly enough, Alia could not be with them for long and soon passed away leaving a void behind.

He was back in the ring just five weeks after his young daughter passed away. 

It was all that appeared to be the result of several years of suppressed emotion.
