Early Life

He was born on December 22nd 1970 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Because his American-born mother and Cuban-born father were operating an oil drilling firm in Calgary at the time. His parents had an on-and-off relationship after his birth & they finally divorced in 1997.

Since high school Cruz has been interested in economic theory and republican ideals. After leaving high school, he attended Princeton & graduated cum laude in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in public policy. During his college years, he became a skilled debater, winning the title of US National Speaker of the Year in 1992. After Princeton, he moved to Harvard. In 1995, he once again graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor.

Legal Career

From 1995 to 1996, he served as a law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals. After this, he became an attorney for a well-known law firm, working on cases related to the National Rifle Association, Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial, and other high-profile cases. After leaving his position as Solicitor General in 2008, he returned to private practice. 

Politics

In 1999, Cruz got his first taste of politics when he joined George W. Bush’s administration as a domestic policy adviser during his campaign. From 2003 to 2008, he was the Solicitor General of Texas. As a Solicitor General & start presented many arguments before the US Supreme Court, which concerned topics from Second Amendment concern to gay rights. After a successful campaign, Cruz won the 2012 US Senate election in Texas. During his time as US Senator, he sponsored 105 of his own bills. 

Due to his outspoken presence in the senate, it was considered that he would run for the Republican Presidential Nomination in 2016. During the primaries, he won 7.8 million votes, 12 states, and 559 delegates. He also set a new record when he raised $92 million ( INR 7,04.23 Cr). Gradually he became the candidate with the highest chance of beating Trump, although it wasn’t meant to be. He was initially critical of Trump following the suspension of his campaign, he later started to speak more favourably of the US president.
