She is a Canadian singer-songwriter and dancer. Tate McRae got selected in the American reality TV show “So You Think You Can Dance” as the first Canadian finalist at the age of thirteen. On 24th January 2020 she released her debut Extended play “All the Things I Never Said”, she started getting recognition when her song “You Broke Me First” becomes a global hit and she also featured as the youngest musician on Forbes 30 under 30 list.
Early life
She was born on 1st July 2003 in Calgary in western Canada. Her father Todd McRae who has worked for the Canadian armed forces and her mother Tanja Rosner is a German. At the age of four with her family, she moved to Oman, a country on the South Eastern Coast in Western Asia. She attended there in The American International School Muscat (TAISM). Along with the school education, she started her dance training. In 2020 she has attended Western Canada High School & by January 2021 she has completed her graduation from high school.
Career
She has awarded the best female dancer in the “Mini” category at the 2013 Dance Awards in New York City and become the brand ambassador of the Dance shoe manufacturer company “Capezio”.
She danced with Canadian singer Justin Bieber’s Calgary show of his purpose world tour.
She uploaded her first song “One Day” on YouTube at the age of 14 and the song received 36 million views. The song certified gold in Canada and her first certificate in her career. She keeps continuing uploading her song on YouTube regularly till 2019 which receives over 40 million views and later on led her name a YouTube “Artist on the Rise”.
Her earlier upload song “one day” caught the attention of American Record label company RCA records under Sony music entertainment. She signed in 2019 With them.
“Tear Myself Apart” her single from her debut extended play “All the Things I Never Said” was co-written by American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish & her brother Finneas O’Connell. The EP’s final single, “Stupid” has been crossed 4 million Spotify streams in December 2019 & currently crossed 130 million.
In June 2020 she released the single “Vicious” next month in July she was nominated for the 2020 MTV Video Music Award for Push Best New Artist. By September 2020 her song “You Broke Me First” receives over 150 million streams and became her first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. She has also appeared on the cover page of Quarterly published fashion and music magazine of the United Kingdom “Notion”.
In December 2020 English rock band The Rolling Stones listed her name as the top ten biggest breakthrough artists of 2020. In May 2021 she was nominated for the Social star award at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. She also won two Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN).
American actress Zendaya & English singer and songwriter Dua Lipa has always been her inspiration in her career. She has also expressed admiration for American singer and songwriter Olivia Rodrigo.
As of May 2021, her YouTube channel has 3.4 million subscribers and over 531 million views, and she has gained over 1.5 billion streams on Swedish Audio streaming Media service provider Spotify.
