She is an American hurdler and sprinter who competed for the University of Kentucky for one year before turning professional in 2018.& is the winner of 2020 Olympic gold. She is the current world record holder in the women’s 400 meters hurdles with a time of 51.46 seconds, which has been achieving on 4th August 2021 at the Tokyo Olympics in the final run.
She won the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400 m hurdles and has won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, crossed the reigning American track and field athlete Dalilah Muhammad, who finished second. Early Life
She was born on 7th August 1999 in New Brunswick is a city in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. Her father’s name is Willie McLaughlin who is the semi-finalist in the 400 m at the 1984 Olympic Trials & mother Neumeister McLaughlin, was a high school runner.
She attended Union Catholic Regional High School located in Scotch Plains, in Union County, New Jersey. She started running at a very young age and with her brother Taylor and her older sister Morgan. She won silver at the 400 m hurdles at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships.
Career
She improved her 400-meter hurdles best to 55.28 at the 2015 national youth trials. At that time she was age fifteen world best, and ranked second on the all-time world youth list after American track and field athlete Leslie Maxie’s world youth best of 55.20 set in 1984. She qualified for the 2015 IAAF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia, where she won gold in 55.94. She finished that year as the world youth and junior leader in the event.
She won the USATF junior championship in 54.54 the next week in recognition of her achievement, she was named “Gatorade National Girls Athlete of the Year”. She was the part of an American Record that broke the indoor distance medley relay world record with a time of 10:40.31, set as the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on 28th January 2017.
The splits for the four legs were: 3:18.40 (1200 m) by American middle-distance download Emma Coburn, 52.32 (400 m) by her, 2:01.92 (800 m). By American track and field athlete Brenda Martinez, and 4:27.66 (1600) m American middle-distance Runner Jenny Simpson. Later that indoor season, she lowered her national 400-meter record to 51.61 at the New Balance Nationals in New York City on March 12, 2017.
She won her heat (55.46) and semi-final (55.23) in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2016 United States Olympic Trials. At the boycotted Moscow Olympics in 1980, she placed 5th position in her semi-final heat, failing to advance to the finals.
In April 2017, she opened her outdoor season by breaking the 300 m hurdles national high school record at the Arcadia Invitational, running 38.90. The record was previously held by American Hurdler Lashinda Demus who ran 39.98 in 2001.
In November 2016, she signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Kentucky and compete for their track and field program.
In March 2018, she makes the world junior 400-meter record (50.36) at the 2018 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
On 13th May 2018, she broke the collegiate and NCAA record in the 400 m hurdles, running 52.75 to win the event in her first SEC championship appearance.
She signed a sponsorship deal with American Sports footwear multinational company “New Balance” in October 2018. She got an estimated $1.5 million (Rs 11.12 Cr) in annual base pay from New Balance. She also contracted with William Morris Endeavor, a firm that typically represents Hollywood stars.
