She was born on 3rd July 1965 in a Danish town named Frederikshavn. Her father’s name was Bent Nielsen, who was a bus driver  & mother  was an insurance clerk by profession.

She started her career with a French comedy movie Par où t’es rentré ? On t’a pas vu sortir directed by the Moroccan-French actor, director Philippe Clair in the year 1984.

Her first minor lead role comes through “Permanent Midnight”. It was an independent drama movie directed by David Veloz in the year 1998. 

She also performed in the movie “Mission to Mars” in the year 2000. It was an American science fiction adventure movie directed by the American director Brian  De Palma. In 2002 she performed in the French thriller movie Demonlover. Directed by the French director Olivier Assayas. In this movie, she performed the character of an orphan in an Irish family drama movie A Shine of Rainbows.

She made her Danish movie debut in the Psychological thriller movie Brødre in the year 2004. The movie was directed by Danish director Susanne Bier. For the performance in the movie, she has also won the  Danish Best Actress Award, The Bodil Awards along with the Best Actress at The San Sebastián International Film Festival.

In 2017 she appeared in the movie American superhero movie based DC Comics character of Queen Hippolyta movie named Wonder Woman. Directed by the American director Patty Jenkins it becomes the highest-earning film with a female director in terms of domestic box office earnings. The worldwide box office collection of the movie was $822.3 million (Rs 59,77.23 Cr).
