Who is Gabby Douglas?
She is an American gymnast who is the round champion of the 2012 Olympic games and the round silver medalist of the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She has won gold in both the 2012 Olympic and the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is also a member of the gold-winning American team of the 2011 World artistic gymnastics Championship and the 2015 World Championship.
She is the first African American who has become the Olympic individual all-around champion. She has reached that level of world gymnastics that her life story becomes an inspiration for a biography movie relates to her life titled “The Gabby Douglas Story”. Along with the movie she has also created her television reality shows “Douglas Family Gold”.
Early Life
She was born on 31st December 1995 in Newport News, is a city in Virginia in the United States. Her father’s name is Timothy Douglas & and her mother Natalie Hawkins-Douglas. She has two older sisters named Arielle and Joyelle and a brother named Johnathan.
She has started her gymnastic training at the age of six. At the age of eight, she has won the Level 4 all-around gymnastics title at the 2004 Virginia State Championships. At the age of fourteen, she moved to Des Moines, is the capital and most populous city of Iowa in the United State. After that, she started her gymnastic training under the Chinese former artistic gymnast Liang Chow.
Career
She made her International debut in 2008 at the US Classic in Houston, the most populous city in Texas. At the tournament, she achieved 10th place in the all-around rankings.
After that, she competed in the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup in 2010 where she placed fourth all-around. Her first elite meets Come to her gymnastic career in the 2010 CoverGirl Classic in Chicago. In the tournament, she achieved Rectangular artistic gymnastic Apparatus which also called balance beam,6th position vault, is an artistic gymnastics apparatus on which a gymnast perform & 9th all-around in the junior division.
At the 2010 U.S. Junior National Championships, she won a silver medal on the balance beam, ranks at the fourth round on the vault & tied for the eighth on floor exercise. Floor Exercise is a specially prepared gymnastic surface apparatus on which gymnasts can perform.
At the 2010 Pan American championships at the Guadalajara, Western Mexico she won uneven bars, it is an artistic gymnastic Apparatus made of steel frame.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics at the O2 Arena in London. She along with the teammates American former Artistic gymnastics coach Jordyn Marie Wieber, American retired artistic gymnast McKayla Rose Maroney, Alexandra Rose Raisman and Kyla Briana Ross won the team event gold medal. She was the only gymnast in the team who has competed in all four apparatus vaults, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercises. At the final of the competition, she won the gold medal in the individual all-around. She becomes the First African American woman as well as the first woman of colour of any nationality, to win the event. She also becomes the fourth American woman to win Olympic all-around gold.
In the 2015 world artistic gymnastic Championship in Glasgow, Scotland she shared in the team gold medal along with the silver in the all-around. Columbus based daily newspaper “The Columbus Dispatch” Published on 13th November 2015 that she would participate in the 2016 AT&T American Cup in Newark, New Jersey.
At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil she competed in the Women’s Qualification. On the vault she scored 15.166, on the uneven bars 15.766, on the balance beam 14.833 & 14.366 on the floor exercise. She played an important role to win the United States a second consecutive gold medal in the team event.
In December 2012 the Associated Press named her the “Female Athlete of the Year”. Next year in June 2013 she received two BET Awards for her achievement in gymnastics.
