He is an American rapper singer-songwriter record producer and drummer. His debut studio album “Venice” was released on 28th October 2014. His second studio album “Malibu” released on 15th January 2016 which received a nomination at the Grammy award for the Best urban contemporary album. For the first time, he has won the Grammy award for best rap performance with the song “Bubblin” in 2018. He won The Grammy award for the second time in 2020 for his fourth studio album “Ventura” in the “Best R&B Album” category. In 2021 he made a pair in Music called “Silk Sonic” with American singer and record producer Bruno Mars.
Early life
He was born on 8th February 1986 in Oxnard, a city in Ventura County California, United States.
He has attended Foothill Technology High School which is in Ventura. During his school life, he also started producing music along with study.
Career
He became famous in 2011 when he started working on his debut album. His debut studio album “Venice” was released on 28th October 2014. The same year he joined with American singer-songwriter Jhene Aiko and organised an ‘Enter The Void’ tour with her. He released his second studio album “Malibu” on 15th January 2016.
On 30th January 2016, he announced on Twitter that he has signed the American record label Aftermath Entertainment. That same year he listed his name in American Hip Hop magazine XXL. In August 2016 he performed on national Public radio NPR Music’s Video series Tiny Desk Concerts. According to NPR, the Concert becomes very popular in the history of the series.
His new single “Til It’s Over” featured on a new television commercial released by American multinational technology company Apple Inc in 2018. He has given an interview on American Media and entertainment company “Complex Networks” on 10th October 2018 that his upcoming album “Oxnard” would be released on 16th November 2018. The featuring artist of the album including American songwriter rapper Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Pusha T & J. Cole. He has also co-written two songs on the sixth album from American singer-songwriter and television personality Christina Aguilera’s eighth studio album “Liberation”. On 3rd December 2018, he announced for his a world tour for the promotion of Oxnard.
His fourth studio album “Ventura” released on 12th April 2019.The featuring artist of the album including American singer Andre 3000, American singer-songwriter Smokey” Robinson, Brandy & the late Nate Dogg. The album was produced under Aftermath Entertainment.
He appeared as a guest showcase model on 20th January 2020 on the television game show “The Price Is Right”.
In August 2020 he was featured on the soundtrack of the American video football game based game Madden NFL 21 on the song “Cut Em In” featuring American rapper Rick Ross.
On 21st April 2021, he along with American singer Bruno Mars announced that they formed a band together called “Silk Sonic”.The upcoming studio album under the band would be “An Evening with Silk Sonic” featuring American Musician “Bootsy” Collins. Their single “Leave the Door Open” topped the Us Billboard hot 100.
Personal Life
He met with Jaylyn in 2011 while she was in a Music college. They married in the same year. The couple has a son together, named Soul Rasheed. They also have a second son who was born in 2017.
