Early Life

She was born on 15th June 1993 in Huelva which  is a port city in southwestern Spain. Her father’s name is Gonzalo Marin & mother’s name is Toni Marin.

Career

At the age of eight, she started playing badminton at the IES La Orden in Huelva.She became the first Spanish badminton player to win a silver medal first in 2009 at the European Junior Badminton Championships. She also won a gold medal in 2009  in European U-17 Junior Badminton Championships. In 2013 she won the London Grand Prix Gold & became the first Spanish badminton player to win the same title.

In August 2014 she won the World Championships women’s singles final in the match against the Chinese badminton player Li Xuerui.  After this win she becomes  the first Spanish Badminton player  to win a World Championship title and the third European female player to achieve the gold medal.

In 2015 she won the All England Open her first Super Series Premier title in her first Superseries Premier final after defeating Indian Professional singles Badminton player Saina Nehwal .This achievement made her to rank number 4 in the world ranking and, for the first time, no. 1 in the Super Series.

In August 2016 at the Rio Olympics won a gold medal by beating Indian P.V.Sindhu in the women’s singles final & also made history to be  first non-Asian to win the Olympic badminton women’s singles gold medal.

Japan Open 2017 she won the Super Series title after beating Chinese He Bingjiao in the final. She was able to win a Super Series title after almost two years.

She won her fourth  European Badminton Championships title in her home soil Huelva, Spain, by beating Russian Evgeniya Andreevna Kosetskaya in the final in April 2018. Same year in August she won the title in the World Championships by defeating P.V.Sindhu making her the first female player in history to win three World Championships titles.

She started her 2019 session with the  Malaysia Masters where she lost  Thai player Ratchanok Intanon in a straight game. But in the same year in September .she won the China Open by defeating Taiwanese player Tai Tzu-ying  in the final with the score 14–21, 21–17, 21–18.

Southeast Asian tour in 2020 she reached the  semi-finals of   Malaysia Masters but lost to Chinese Players Chen Yufei.

She won the first title of the year 2021 in  The Yonex Thailand Open by defeating world no 1 Taiwanese Tai Tzu-ying in the two games.She also won  The Hua Hin Challenger by beating Tai Tzu-ying  again. She won her first world tour title in Switzerland by beating  Indian badminton champion P.V.Sindhu in  21–12, 21–5.
